The Power of Song by Katie D.

The first practice we came to sing
Beauty would ring
The music’s goal?
To feed your soul.

With harmonies so sweet and fair,
Our hearts we’d share.
It never lied.
Nowhere to hide.

Ages ranging from young to old.
Stories we told.
And bye the end,
Music’s our friend.

katie, i really enjoyed this poem! it was very good. the rhyme scheme flowed so easily and it was fun to read. after reading this, i pictured all these different people, young and old of all different races singing together. i liked the first stanza, how you asked the question then answered it. you were pretty descriptive and your title was creative too!
great job! :]

This reminds me of Dan Kane and Noah Lis - both talented musicians. I like how music began to become your friend. I also picture Meghann Fahy or Traci Mnich as I read this poem. Maybe a little bit of Sam Plotkin too? Or Laura Gray. I think I've uncovered the secrets of this poem. Terrific job.

I can tell you love singing from this poem. Does it have anything to do with the Dan Kane Singers? that's what i pictured. It flowed nicely in the minuet form. I like the way you finished the poem by saying "music's our friend". it truly is and music can really make you feel great.

Katie, great poem!

I thought of Dane Kane Singers when i read this poem too. I love the message of how music can bring everyone together regardless of age. I also like how the the poem tells a story from the beginning, or first practice, to the end. The description is really pure and in depth. You did a really good job conforming to the required rhyme scheme. This doesn't really remind me of anything i've read.

Reading your poem reminded me of the first day of chorus in fifth grade and how I was terrified of Ms. Steele. The last stanza, about ages from young to old, made me think of Dan Kane, and how there was such a wide age range, but what we all wanted to do was sing. I liked the comparison of music to necessities in life, such as friends. It made me really happy. It reminded me of a poem I read earlier this year about how music is everywhere we go, and about how amazing it can be if we let it be in our lives.
